Studying in Australia from the U.S. is an exciting opportunity to earn a world‑class degree, experience a new culture, and fast track your career–often in less time than a U.S. degree.
Studying overseas is a super exciting opportunity for anyone, but it can also be very nerve-wracking and completely foreign!
That is one of the many reasons why we started Pacific Futures, to assist U.S students to study in Australia.
Australia is world-renowned as an international study destination, and that is why more than 800,000 international students call Australia home while studying.

What Can You Study in Australia as a U.S. Student?
Australian bachelor degrees are three years in duration as there are no general education requirements, so you enter straight into your degree of choice.
This is why admissions is based on the degree you want to study, unlike American universities, where you apply to the university and then decide on your degree after general education.
Where Should You Study in Australia?
Once you know what you want to study, you can start looking at universities that teach the degree you are interested in.
It is also time to start thinking about the experience that you would like to have.
Are you hoping for the city lights of Melbourne with the cafe culture or the incredible beaches of Sydney on your doorstep?
Perhaps slightly off the beaten track with Adelaide’s festival culture or Perth’s stunning waterways?
How Do U.S. Students Apply to Australian Universities?
Once you have narrowed down a city and university, it is time to start the application process.
It is free to apply to most Australian universities, and the application process is very transparent.
You will generally hear back anywhere from three days to three months after applying!
From here, you will receive a letter of offer, which is your acceptance letter–congratulations!
It is now time to pay your deposit and start looking at housing and flights to Australia!
Studying anywhere–from your local community college to a university on the other side of the country to the other side of the world–is going to have vastly different long- and short-term outcomes for you.
But just know that you are doing something incredible–enjoy the ride!
